Okay, let's get to it. The rules:
Tier One: These are a combination of habits I have already integrated and a bare minimum of habits I would like to instill in the next one thousand days.
Go to Daily Mass on Weekdays: This is a habit I have already established. Breaking this discipline is only valid for extended family travel, sickness of either me or my family, and impossible to work around scheduling conflicts (i.e. I have a ton of doctor's appointments coming up and I will also be delivering a baby in the near future.)
Pray the Rosary Every Day: I am pretty good at this right now, but I tend to drop the ball on the weekends. I really don't see any extenuating circumstances that would prevent me from doing this.
Engage in at least 30 Minutes of Daily Exercise: This could be nothing more than a leisurely walk. Breaking this should not happen often, but sickness and the birth of my third daughter may prevent me on really tough days (or while I am in the hospital.)
Tier Two: These are habits that I would really like to build and if it is a normal day, I need to do these things.
Pray the morning and evening prayers in the Magnificat: I do this maybe 3-4 times a week. Usually not both on the same day. I would like to get better at saying morning and evening prayers and I really enjoy the Magnificat devotionals.
Read the Bible: I am not putting a set time or a set number of verses on this goal. If I only read one verse a day for the next 1000 days, I will consider my journey a success.
Drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. I think this will be challenging for me, especially in the beginning.
Read for at least 10 minutes a day.
Record/journal my successes, failures, and progress.
So those are the habits that I want to instill in the next thousand days. As I mentioned, there will be many side quests in addition to these goals to keep things interesting, keep me growing, and make me better. Up next, I am going to talk about the first 40 days of my challenge.
